About This Webinar: Part 2 of this two-part self-study course on managing preanalytical variables in venipuncture collection defines and categorizes preanalytical variables as controllable or uncontrollable. Part 2 briefly reviews variables discussed in Part 1, and then concentrates on patient physiological factors which cannot be controlled by the clinical laboratory.

While not mandatory, it is recommended that "Laboratory Performance: Managing Preanalytical Variables in Venipuncture Collection, Part 1" be taken prior to taking Part 2.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this webinar you will be able to:

  1. Identify the preanalytical phase.
  2. Recognize the importance of understanding preanalytical variables in blood specimen collection.
  3. Understand and identify contributing factors in blood specimen collection, processing, handling, and their effect(s) upon patient test results.
