About This Webinar: The issue of hemolysis has always plagued clinical laboratories and continues to be a growing concern. Hemolysis leads to a higher rate of rejected specimens and is a cause of frustration for the lab and the "floors." It can affect all areas in the laboratory and cause erroneous patient results. This program will cover the factors known to cause hemolysis to varying degrees and the need to consider these factors during blood specimen collection.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this webinar you will be able to:

  1. Define and describe hemolysis.
  2. Recognize what contributes to hemolysis.
  3. List the effects of hemolysis on test results.
  4. Initiate procedures that will help reduce the incidence of hemolysis.

Level of Instruction: Intermediate

Suggested Audience: Phlebotomists, lab managers, medical technologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals responsible for the collection, handling, processing, and diagnostic testing of blood specimens in the clinical laboratory.
